Analytics Engineering - Applications Platform

We are looking for a Data Scientist to architect the next generation of metrics and data products for core pieces of the Host Experience such as reviews, listing structured data and host application usage. As the Airbnb product gets more sophisticated, gathering and making available the data we need to improve the host experience is more complex and we need a technical leader to drive strategy in this area.

 

We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication skills and strong leadership skills to achieve consensus with stakeholders. The best candidates will have extensive experience with analytics and a high degree of familiarity with data and analytics engineering best practices. We also expect a solid foundation in statistics and continued curiosity and a desire to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Own the data science strategy for metrics and data models for the Applications Platform team
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure all new and existing product surfaces have the data they need to power the user experience, the business reporting and the insights needed to drive further development.
  • Understand what the data needs of the team are by interfacing with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Engineers and Business Partners
  • Architect, build, and launch efficient & reliable new data models and pipelines in partnership with Engineering and Data Engineering
  • Design, define, and implement metrics and dimensions to enable analysis and predictive modeling
  • Build tools for auditing, error logging, and validating data tables
  • Build and improve data tooling in partnership with internal Data Platform teams 
  • Define logging needs in partnership with Data Engineering
  • Design and develop dashboards to enable self-serve data consumption

Qualifications

  • Passion for high data quality and scaling data science work
  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong skills in SQL and distributed system optimization (e.g. Spark, Presto, Hadoop, Hive)
  • Expert in at least one programming language for data analysis (e.g. Python, R)
  • Experience in schema design and dimensional data modeling
  • Experience with an ETL framework like Airflow
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis to inform business decisions
  • Familiarity with experimentation and machine learning techniques
  • An eye for design when it comes to dashboards and visualization tools
  • Proven ability to succeed in both collaborative and independent work environments
  • Detail oriented and excited to learn new skills and tools
