The Difference You Will Make:

Auth Infrastructure: This team is responsible for building the infrastructure around Airbnb’s authentication and authorization systems. Authentication systems encompass credential and sessions management. Authorization systems enable permission management for all Airbnb platform products and services across internal and external Airbnb communities. Together these systems provide developers at Airbnb with the best-in-class infrastructure to build secure and trustworthy applications.

A Typical Day: 

This engineer on Auth Infra will work on distributed systems that have higher reliability and security requirements than most backend systems or services. The Auth infra systems have a large number of critical services, and any downtime across these services can result in a hard downtime for the Airbnb platform. In addition, we collaborate closely with the product and infra engineering teams to build new features and evolve the systems to meet the engineering challenges from the business growing and evolving.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include

  • Designing and implementing new authentication and authorization systems. This could involve designing new protocols, implementing new features, or integrating with existing systems.
  • Maintaining and debugging existing authentication and authorization systems. This could involve fixing bugs, improving performance, contributing to production excellence, or adding new features, code reviews.
  • Providing technical support to other engineers and developers. This could involve answering questions, debugging code, or helping to troubleshoot problems.
  • Staying up-to-date on the latest security threats and trends. This could involve reading security blogs, attending conferences, or taking security courses.

Collaborating within and broadly across the Airbnb tech community. Working with other engineers on Airbnb wide initiatives, collaborating with external teams - partners and stakeholders, and ensuring that team success makes Airbnb platform and community successful.

Your Expertise:

  • Experience working on distributed systems and evaluating trade-offs
  • Experience working in Authentication or Authorization systems is a plus
  • Proficient in technical communication - writing design docs, presenting in design reviews, communicating future direction, success criteria and progress.
  • Want to tackle projects with large open-ended scope and drive significant business impact
  • Love collaborating via code reviews and architecture discussions
  • Are motivated to improve their teammates’ productivity
  • Are excited to join an impactful infrastructure team 

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
